A Texas stockbroker, George Gile, has filed a lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase, accusing the firm of pressuring him into participating in LGBTQ+ marketing campaigns. Gile claims the coercion led to harassment, personal distress, and professional setbacks, ultimately prompting legal action.
A Texas-based stockbroker has filed a federal lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase, alleging that the firm pressured him to participate in marketing initiatives targeting LGBTQ+ clients. The broker, George Gile, claims that this coercion led to personal distress, harassment, and significant professional setbacks, prompting legal action to address these grievances.
Professional Background of the Plaintiff
George Gile was employed at JPMorgan Securities from 2022 until early 2025. Prior to joining the firm, he had a substantial client portfolio acquired from positions at Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley. Gile began his wealth management career at Wells Fargo in 2008 and later managed a book of 54 client households at Morgan Stanley, generating approximately $408,000 annually. At JPMorgan, he continued to manage a significant client base but encountered challenges allegedly linked to his bisexual orientation.
Allegations of Discrimination and Coercion
According to the lawsuit, within a month of starting at JPMorgan, the firm’s marketing director, Wendeline Dill, became aware of Gile’s bisexuality. She reportedly encouraged him to publicize his sexual orientation on his professional website and to develop an LGBTQ+ focused marketing brochure for the office. Gile asserts he was not publicly out at work or to his family at that time. Following these marketing efforts, clients, colleagues, and family members reportedly became aware of his sexual orientation, which Gile states resulted in harassment and offensive remarks.
Impact of Publicity Campaigns
Gile’s complaint notes that after a high-profile publicity campaign by Anheuser-Busch featuring trans actress Dylan Mulvaney in April 2023, threats against LGBTQ+ individuals involved in marketing campaigns increased. Gile raised concerns regarding the safety of himself and his family, leading Dill to temporarily remove references to his sexuality. However, she allegedly made participation in LGBTQ+ marketing a condition for receiving marketing funding for certain events, including the Dallas Black Tie Dinner.
Hostile Work Environment and Harassment
Gile describes ongoing tensions with management, creating what he characterizes as a hostile work environment. The lawsuit further alleges that being publicly outed at the office exposed him to sexual harassment from a supervisor. The supervisor reportedly sent explicit messages via Skype and made advances at LGBTQ+ networking events, which Gile claims disrupted his personal and professional life.
Professional and Financial Consequences
The complaint details several professional setbacks following the firm’s marketing actions:
- Loss of approximately 50% of his clients after the promotion of his sexual orientation.
- Assignment of work different from that of heterosexual advisers.
- Reduction of travel and expense budget from $10,000 to $1,000.
- Relocation from a private office to a shared workspace without dedicated computer resources.
- Denial of access to a $500,000 client portfolio, which was offered to more experienced heterosexual advisers.
When Gile raised concerns, management reportedly suggested that generating additional revenue could improve his circumstances, a response he claims did not address the discriminatory treatment he experienced.
Resignation and Current Status
Gile resigned from JPMorgan Chase in January 2025 after being diagnosed with an ulcer, which he attributes to the stress of his work environment. He is currently employed at Cetera Financial Group and is pursuing legal remedies, including claims for back pay, compensatory and punitive damages, and court-mandated improvements to anti-discrimination policies and workplace monitoring at JPMorgan.
Legal Basis of the Lawsuit
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Dallas, alleges violations of the Civil Rights Act and the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act. The complaint includes claims of emotional distress, humiliation, embarrassment, and personal anguish resulting from the firm’s actions.
Next Steps
JPMorgan Chase has not publicly responded to the lawsuit. The case has drawn attention to issues surrounding voluntary participation in diversity initiatives, workplace protections for LGBTQ+ employees, and the potential conflicts between corporate marketing efforts and employee rights.
