President Trump has authorized the deployment of the Louisiana National Guard to New Orleans and other areas across the state. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry confirmed the move, stating that the support is urgently needed to combat rising crime. The National Guard will remain deployed until February 2026.
President Donald Trump, together with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, has officially authorized the deployment of the Louisiana National Guard to New Orleans and additional locations across the state. This action was confirmed by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry during a live interview on The Will Cain Show on Fox News.
During the discussion, host Will Cain requested an update regarding the state's National Guard deployment, following a recent Supreme Court ruling that blocked a similar attempt by the Trump administration to send troops to Chicago. This Supreme Court decision arose in the context of numerous troop deployments in multiple U.S. cities, which were initiated to address increasing crime rates.
Governor Landry expressed gratitude to President Trump and Secretary Hegseth for their support, confirming that Louisiana National Guard units would be stationed in New Orleans starting on New Year's Eve and remain deployed through February 2026. Landry emphasized that the National Guard operates under his authority as governor.
"I want to thank President Trump for fulfilling his commitment. He and Secretary Hegseth are sending the National Guard back into Louisiana, specifically New Orleans," Governor Landry stated. "They will arrive for New Year's Eve, and their deployment will continue through February. This support is urgently needed."
The governor highlighted the National Guards role in enhancing public safety and reducing crime, noting previous deployments to other cities. "The National Guard is effective in helping cities address crime," Landry explained. "For example, when President Trump authorized National Guard support in Washington, D.C., Louisiana was among the first to provide troops, and their presence contributed to improved safety."
Governor Landry confirmed that the current mission in New Orleans is aimed at addressing violent crime in both the city and statewide. "Our troops will support efforts to reduce violence in New Orleans and across Louisiana," he said, acknowledging the cooperation of the federal administration. "I appreciate the backing of President Trump and Secretary Hegseth."
Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell issued an official statement confirming that 350 members of the Louisiana National Guard will be deployed throughout the state, with the mission scheduled to continue until February 28, 2026. Parnell emphasized that the deployment will remain under Governor Landrys direct supervision and will play a critical role in enhancing public safety and enforcing federal law.
"This mission will directly improve the security of Louisiana residents and support the enforcement of federal laws, reaffirming the Department of Defense's commitment to interagency cooperation and the protection of our communities," the statement read.
The deployment forms part of ongoing efforts to address rising crime and violence in the region, with both local and national authorities prioritizing the protection of high-risk areas throughout Louisiana. The coordinated action reflects a broader strategy to ensure public safety and provide federal support in states experiencing heightened security challenges.
