The approach to a busy junction on Quarterbridge Road in Douglas will close on Sunday for tree removal. Traffic will be redirected along detours between Selbourne Drive and Alexander Drive from 08:00 to 18:00 GMT to ensure safety and minimize disruption.
The approach to a key junction on Quarterbridge Road in Douglas will be temporarily closed to allow for the removal of a tree on private land. The closure will affect traffic on Sunday, restricting movement between 08:00 and 18:00 GMT, effectively halting access for a total of twelve hours. The affected stretch extends from the junction with Selbourne Drive to the junction with Alexander Drive.
Traffic Management
During the closure, vehicles will be directed along designated detours to maintain the flow of traffic around the affected area. Quarterbridge Road, which connects two significant roundabouts, serves as a major route for traffic arriving from the southern and western regions of the Isle of Man. The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) has stated that the timing of the closure has been chosen specifically to limit disruption for commuters and commercial traffic.
Reason for Closure
The DOI confirmed that the closure is required for the safe removal of a tree located on private property. A commissioned contractor will carry out the work. According to a DOI spokesperson, dead trees can become unstable and may pose a risk of falling, which could endanger the public. Removing the tree now prevents potential hazards and ensures public safety. The operation is scheduled for a Sunday to avoid conflicts with weekday traffic, reducing the overall impact on commuters.
Contingency Plans
In the event of unsafe weather conditions, the tree removal will be postponed to a backup date of 22 March. The DOI advises drivers to monitor traffic updates and follow the temporary detour routes to avoid delays during the closure.
