Bruce Willis' spouse Emma shares her opinion on the yearly “Die Hard” debate: 'It's a Christmas film'

Emma Heming Willis, wife of Bruce Willis, opened up about her family's holiday traditions, sharing a key ritual that answers the long-standing debate over whether Die Hard qualifies as a Christmas movie. "I think it's essential to watch Die Hard because it's a Christmas film," she told PEOPLE in a recent interview. The 1988 action hit, featuring Bruce Willis as the reluctant hero John McClane, remains a holiday favorite for the Willis family, regardless of any discussions about its seasonal classification.

Although Bruce himself has downplayed the idea of Die Hard being a Christmas moviefamously stating at his Comedy Central roast that it is "a goddamn Bruce Willis movie"Emma mentioned that he doesnt mind her choice of holiday entertainment. "Bruce loved Christmas, and we cherish celebrating it with him," she shared with PEOPLE.

Even while managing Bruces life with frontotemporal dementia, Emma emphasized that joy is still present. "There is still happiness. It just looks a little different," she explained. "You have to adjust, create new memories, and continue the traditions you held before. Life goes on. Dementia is challenging, but there is still joy in it. I think its crucial not to paint such a bleak picture of dementia."

Emma and Bruce, who co-starred in Red 2 and Perfect Stranger, married in 2009 and share two daughters, Mabel and Evelyn. Bruce also has three daughtersTallulah, Scout, and Rumerwith ex-wife Demi Moore. The family has been open about the ups and downs of his health since his aphasia diagnosis in 2022, which later evolved into a frontotemporal dementia diagnosis in 2023. Emma has been particularly active in raising awareness about FTD through social media and interviews.

In September, she released a book titled The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, designed as a supportive guide for caregivers of loved ones with dementia. During the ABC special Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey, which aired over the summer, Emma revealed that despite Bruce's cognitive decline, moments of his joyful personality still shine through. "Not days, but we get moments," she said. "Its his laughso hearty. Sometimes you catch that twinkle in his eye or a smirk, and it transports me."

Visibly emotional, Emma added, "Its hard because those moments are fleeting, but I am grateful. I am thankful that my husband is still very much present."
