Exclusive Clip of Greece’s Metaphysical Mystery 'Arcadia', Oscar Submission

Arcadia, the sophomore feature by writer-director Yorgos Zois (Casus Belli), is Greeces contender for the Best International Feature category at the Oscars. Since premiering in the 2024 Berlin Film Festivals Encounters section, the metaphysical mystery dramaco-written with Konstantina Kotzamanhas already garnered major accolades.

The film earned Best Director at the Sarajevo Film Festival and the FIPRESCI Award for Best International Film at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. It also claimed top honors at the Hellenic Film Academy Awards this year, winning Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

The cast features Vangelis Mourikis (The King, Digger) and Angeliki Papoulia (Dogtooth, The Lobster), who portray Katerina, a neurologist, and Yannis, a retired doctor. Their story unfolds in a quiet seaside town during the off-season, where Yannis is called to identify a tragic accidents victim, setting the stage for a mysterious journey. Katerina begins piecing together the events during nightly visits to a peculiar beach bar named Arcadia.

Konstantinos Koukoulios served as cinematographer, with Yannis Chalkiadakis handling editing. Arcadia has been described as a genre-blurring meditation on love, loss, grief, the afterlife, and transitional states, both literal and emotional.

The Greek Oscar selection committee praised the film for its exceptional technical and artistic achievement, highlighting its authentic expression of Greek identity.

THR has released an exclusive clip showcasing the films ethereal ambiance, with themes touching on memory, intimacy, and the refined tastes of its characters, offering more questions than answers to viewers.
