Jayme Lawson revealed that the group chat for the film Sinners has been buzzing nonstop after the movie received five Grammy nominations. The 28-year-old actress, speaking at the premiere of The Running Man on November 9, described the cast's ongoing excitement months after the film's April release.

We talk constantly, Lawson told PEOPLE. The group chats are on fire. There was a lot of screaming back and forth after the Grammy nominations were announced. She added, I love my Sinners family, and its thrilling to still see and spend time with them.

Directed and written by Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler, Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, and Wunmi Mosaku. The horror movie centers on twin brothers Smoke and Stack (Jordan), who return to their Mississippi hometown in 1932 after a stint in Chicago. They attempt to open a juke joint but confront sinister forces along the way.

The film not only reached the top of the domestic box office, grossing $45.6 million, but also went on to earn over $367 million globally. It made history by becoming the first horror film in more than 35 years to receive an "A" CinemaScore.

When asked about the ongoing Oscar buzz surrounding the film, Lawson said, We were hoping that would be the case when filming. Its exciting that the momentum continues and may carry into next yearits a truly rewarding feeling.

Despite their tight schedules, Lawson noted the cast keeps in touch. People have jobs, families, things to do. We support each other with voice notes and text messages, she said.

Lawson, who plays singer Pearline, celebrated the film's success on Instagram over the Easter holiday, sharing photos with her co-stars. She captioned the post: It was/is/and always will be A FAMILY AFFAIR ! Happy Easter/Resurrection Sunday everyone. Go with your peoples to see #SINNERS in IMAX. Youll be alrightmaybe .

Steinfeld also praised the project, telling Who What Wear earlier this year that her role in Sinners was one she had been anticipating. She called Cooglers script complex and layered and described feeling honored to be part of the production.
