'Miraculous' Studio Zag Collaborates with Former F1 Driver Carmen Jordá on Animated Movie and Franchise Based on Women's Motorsports (EXCLUSIVE)

Zag, the creative force behind the hit series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, is partnering with former Formula 1 driver Carmen Jord to launch Carmen, an animated feature celebrating female empowerment in motorsports. Jeremy Zag, co-creator and producer of Miraculous, is leading the project, which will expand into a larger franchise including scripted content, live experiences, and consumer products inspired by Jord.

The film aims to resonate with Gen Z audiences through themes of resilience, empowerment, and high-octane storytelling.

High-Profile Team Behind the Project

Zag has brought on top-tier collaborators for Carmen. Michael Gracey, known for The Greatest Showman, and Tyler Thompson from Cross Creek Pictures, producer of Black Swan and American Made, are producing. Andrea Puig, former executive at HBO Max and Netflix, joins as executive producer.

The storyline follows Carmen as she confronts challenges in the competitive racing world, overcoming doubt, pressure, and heartbreak. The official synopsis states: Carmen must push beyond her limits to reclaim her dream and discover who she truly is.

Inspiration and Vision

Jeremy Zag expressed his excitement: At Zag, weve always believed in creating heroes who inspire kids to believe in themselves. Carmens journey and perseverance impressed and inspired me. Her story will guide us in imagining a new hero for tomorrow.

Jord added, Racing has shaped my life. Partnering with Zag allows me to turn my passion into a story that can inspire millions of young girls worldwide. I want them to know they can dream big, fight hard, and take their place on the track just like I did.

Jord, a former Lotus and Renault F1 development driver, was the 11th woman ever to join a top-tier F1 driver line-up. She is a strong advocate for women in motorsports and diversity in the racing world.

Producers Highlight the Films Message

Michael Gracey praised Jords fearlessness and ambition, calling them the qualities of true heroes. Tyler Thompson noted the significance of bringing Carmens story to audiences globally, while Andrea Puig emphasized Zags talent for creating emotionally resonant worlds and capturing Carmens spirit.

Rising Interest in Womens Motorsports

Interest in female-led racing stories has grown in recent years. For example, Reese Witherspoons Hello Sunshine produced a docuseries on female F1 drivers that premiered on Netflix. Zag is also developing a second Miraculous film with producer John Cohen and writer Matt Roller.

The first Miraculous Ladybug & Cat Noir film was a global success in 2023, performing strongly at European box offices and streaming on Netflix across multiple regions, earning over $40 million theatrically.

Additionally, Zag is working on the musical animated feature Melody, starring Katy Perry.
