'Pillion' wins big at British Independent Film Awards: Check out full list of winners

Pillion emerged as the big winner at the British Independent Film Awards, securing the titles of Best Film and Best Debut Screenwriter for its writer and director, Harry Lighton. This BDSM-themed comedy explores an unlikely romance between a biker, played by Alexander Skarsgard, and a shy, reserved character portrayed by Harry Melling. The film also earned two craft awards for costume design and hair and make-up design, bringing its total tally to four awards.
Pillion premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was later acquired by A24 for distribution in the United States.
Reflecting on his success, Lighton stated during his acceptance speech in London, I was warned at the end of my first feature I would hate my producer, but that didnt happen.
Other notable winners included Akinola Davies Jr. for Best Director with My Fathers Shadow, which had entered the night with 11 nominations. The Ballad Of Wallis Island collected three awards, including Best Screenplay, Best Lead Performance, and Best Music. Sentimental Value was recognized as Best International Film.
The awards also celebrated ensemble performances in films such as The Ballad Of Wallis Island and Warfare, highlighting actors including DPharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, and Cosmo Jarvis.
Additionally, several independent films received recognition for exceptional contributions in production and acting across the UK film industry, reflecting the diverse talent in contemporary cinema.
