Fans of Emily Henry finally get to see some of their favorite characters brought to life on screen. On Tuesday, Netflix released the official trailer for People We Meet on Vacation, offering viewers their first extended glimpse of the adaptation of Henrys bestselling romance novel.
Although the movie is set to premiere on January 9, audiences are already transported to sun-drenched holiday destinations through the new trailer. With soaring temperatures and a sizzling romance, it perfectly captures the essence of a summer getaway.
The romantic comedy follows Poppy Wright (played by Emily Bader) and Alex Nilsen (Tom Blyth), best friends who reunite each year for adventurous summer vacations. In the trailer, Poppy explains her philosophy: On vacation, you can be anyone you want. Thats why I want to travel. You can actually be who you want to be instead of who they say you are. The story contrasts Real-life Poppy with Vacation-Poppy, whose daring spirit she shares with Alex. As these two sides start to overlap, the pair must confront whether friendship is enough for them.
Emily Henry has become a leading voice in contemporary romance, with four New York Times Best Sellers and over 8 million books sold worldwide. People We Meet on Vacation marks the first of her novels to hit the big screen, with adaptations of Beach Read, Book Lovers, Happy Place, and Funny Story already in development.
Henry has noted that while the film includes some differences from the book, these changes add fresh moments and humor for fans. Weve moved a lot of the book from Palm Springs to Barcelona, so theres some fun new set dressing. There are also new dialogues, jokes, and moments of affection between Poppy and Alex, she explained. Its like extra pieces of them, and I think readers will really enjoy that.
The cast also includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Lukas Gage, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Alan Ruck, and Molly Shannon. Directed by Brett Haley (All the Bright Places, Hearts Beat Loud) and written by Yulin Kuang, who will also helm the adaptation of Beach Read, the film is set to stream on Netflix starting January 9.
