Corridos often celebrate influential figures, from crime bosses to politicians, but Adriel Favela and Calle 24 are taking the genre in a new direction. Their latest release, "Sucio Dom", merges traditional Mexican music with the world of professional wrestling, honoring Mexican American WWE star Dominik Mysterio.
The official music video, released today, features the artists performing in tribute to Mysterio. Over the twang of requintos, the lyrics reference the wrestling star: "Rosary on my chest and always in black / Everything is a mystery, thats how God wanted it / Long mane like a warrior / Blood isnt heavy, loyalty wins."
Favela explained the natural connection between lucha libre and musica mexicana. In Mexico, wrestling represents family, identity, and culture, he told Rolling Stone. Even though Dom was born in the U.S., Mexican fans have followed his journey and embraced him as one of their own. That cultural bond gives this release its true meaning.
Beyond wrestling, the song carries a deeper message of perseverance and determination. This project combines elements greater than any single brand or individual identity, Favela said. It represents everyone who has ever felt out of place but continues to push forward.
"Sucio Dom" concludes a productive year for Favela. In January, he released Origen, returning to the corridos style that defined his early career. The albums lead single, "Un 2X3", featured powerhouse vocalist Carin Leon, highlighting their musical chemistry.
This summer, Favela performed at Mexicos Lunario of the National Auditorium, sharing the stage with Drake Bell, Octavio Cuadras, Brandon Reyes, and Elvin. Looking ahead to 2026, he plans to release his highly anticipated album Cobra, already teased with tracks like "Cabrn Infeliz".
Analysis: The Fusion of Corridos and Lucha Libre in "Sucio Dom"
Adriel Favela and Calle 24’s new track, "Sucio Dom," marks a significant evolution in the world of corridos, blending traditional Mexican music with the exciting, larger-than-life world of professional wrestling. By honoring WWE star Dominik Mysterio, Favela has created a powerful cultural crossover, linking the passionate fanbase of lucha libre with the deep-rooted traditions of Mexican music.
Favela’s commentary on the natural connection between lucha libre and musica mexicana is key to understanding this fusion. Wrestling in Mexico has long been more than just a sport; it’s a celebration of identity, family, and culture. This is evident in the lyrics of "Sucio Dom," which celebrate Mysterio not just as a wrestler, but as a symbol of resilience and belonging. Even though Mysterio was born in the U.S., Mexican fans have claimed him as one of their own, and the song is a tribute to that cross-border unity.
While "Sucio Dom" is a tribute to Mysterio, it carries broader themes of perseverance and identity. Favela has crafted a message that resonates with anyone who has ever felt marginalized but continues to fight for their place. This makes the track not only a celebration of Mysterio’s success but also a declaration of the universal human experience of overcoming adversity.
With "Sucio Dom," Favela has successfully blended two powerful cultural forces, using music to create a bridge between lucha libre fans and the wider audience of corrido lovers. This track, along with his successful year that included the release of the album *Origen* and his live performances, further cements Favela’s influence in the Latin music scene. As he looks to 2026 with the upcoming release of *Cobra*, it’s clear that Favela is not only redefining the boundaries of his genre but also redefining what it means to be a voice of the people.
