During the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving home game on Thursday, Nov. 27, Post Malone used his halftime performance to honor Marshawn Kneeland, the late defensive end. We love you, 94, Malone said near the conclusion of his three-song set at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, referencing Kneelands jersey number. We love you.

The Rockstar singer also wore a No. 94 pin on his blue-and-white satin jacket while the Cowboys faced the Kansas City Chiefs. Kneeland tragically passed away earlier this month from a gunshot wound to the head at just 24 years old, with authorities investigating his death as a possible suicide.

Kneeland, a former Western Michigan Broncos player, earned second-team Mid-American Conference honors in 2023 and was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round the following year.

For Post Malone, performing at the Cowboys Thanksgiving game was a meaningful homecoming. Raised in Grapevine, Texas, Malone (real name Austin Post) has long supported the team. His father, Rich Post, served as assistant director of food and beverage at AT&T Stadium from 2005 to 2019. I grew up a Cowboys fan and have watched this halftime show for years, Malone shared in a statement. Its an honor to be part of the Red Kettle Kickoff with The Salvation Army and the Dallas Cowboys and help bring hope to so many people.

During the halftime show, Malone performed Wrong Ones, Wow, and I Had Some Help.

His tribute coincided with a Cowboys victory, as Dallas edged out Kansas City 31-28. Malone has a history of performing at high-profile football events, including shows for the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans, singing at the 2024 Super Bowl, and headlining the Super Bowl 59 YouTube tailgate concert earlier this year.

Author’s Commentary: Honoring Marshawn Kneeland at the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Game

Post Malone’s halftime performance during the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving game carried more weight than typical entertainment. By wearing a No. 94 pin and publicly dedicating his set to Marshawn Kneeland, Malone highlighted the tragic loss of the 24-year-old defensive end and paid respect to his contributions both on and off the field.

Kneeland, drafted by the Cowboys after a standout season at Western Michigan, had a promising career ahead. His untimely death, under investigation as a possible suicide, cast a shadow over the holiday game. Malone’s tribute provided a public moment of recognition and remembrance for the late player.

For Malone, performing at AT&T Stadium was also a personal homecoming. Raised in Grapevine, Texas, and with family ties to the stadium, the artist’s connection to the Cowboys added authenticity to his tribute. The performance coincided with a narrow Dallas victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, further highlighting the emotional and cultural significance of the event for fans and the community.
