WASHINGTON, Dec 4 DJI, the Chinese drone manufacturer, has urged the U.S. Congress and the Trump administration to either finish a mandated security assessment promptly or extend the deadline currently set for December 23.
Last year, Congress passed legislation requiring a security review of DJI. If the review is not finalized by the deadline, the company could be placed on the Federal Communications Commissions Covered List. DJI warns that such a designation would essentially prevent it from selling new drone models in the United States.
In a letter addressed to House Speaker Mike Johnson, DJI stated, "Not completing this Congress-mandated review on schedule threatens to disrupt a vital industry, jeopardizing American innovation, employment, livelihoods, and public safety."
