WASHINGTON Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer reported on Monday that multiple offices in New York have received bomb threats through emails titled MAGA. Authorities are investigating, and no injuries have been reported, the New York Democrat stated, expressing gratitude for the swift response.
This morning, law enforcement across New York notified me of several bomb threats sent to my offices in Rochester, Binghamton, and Long Island. The emails, claiming the 2020 election was rigged, carried the subject line MAGA. Local and federal officers responded immediately and are conducting comprehensive security checks, Schumer said in his statement.
Everyone is safe, and I appreciate the rapid and professional actions taken to ensure these offices remain secure for all New Yorkers, he added.
Schumer emphasized, Such violent threats have no place in our political system. No onewhether a public servant, staff member, constituent, or citizenshould ever face threats simply for performing their duties.
He delivered a version of his written statement on the Senate floor shortly after issuing it, before addressing other topics, including U.S. operations targeting what the Trump administration described as drug vessels in the Caribbean.
The threats against Schumer's offices come amid heightened political tension. On the same day, Senator Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., shared a series of abusive messages on X, in which individuals called for her death. Leadership sets the tone. When President Trump suggests I should be killed and hanged, some people feel justified to make even worse threats, Slotkin wrote.
Last week, two National Guard members stationed in Washington, D.C., were shot near the White House in a targeted attack, according to authorities. One of them, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, was killed.
