Donald Trump has endorsed a post labeling Michelle Obama as an "anti-white racist" following a controversial meme that portrayed her and Barack Obama as apes. The former president shared the post on Truth Social, amplifying criticisms against the Obamas, while demanding action against Netflix executive Susan Rice.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has continued his series of public attacks against Barack and Michelle Obama, building upon previous controversies. His latest endorsement came in the form of a post that explicitly referred to the Obamas as "anti-white racists." This comes in the aftermath of a widely condemned meme that portrayed the former first couple as apes.
Trump Reshares Controversial Post on Social Media
Over the weekend, Trump reshifted the spotlight by resharing a provocative post on his Truth Social account, originally created by political activist Laura Loomer. The post not only slammed Susan Rice but also featured derogatory remarks about the Obamas. Trump's own comment on the post urged Netflix to take immediate action against Rice, who was serving as an executive at the company at the time. Trump’s message read, “Netflix should fire racist, Trump Deranged Susan Rice, IMMEDIATELY, or pay the consequences.”
Trump went on to criticize Rice’s professional capabilities, dismissing her as talentless and lacking influence. He demanded that Netflix address the situation, asserting that if left unchecked, the company would face repercussions. Loomer’s post, which Trump amplified, took issue with Rice's public statements about corporate actions, specifically regarding companies that have taken a knee against Trump. Loomer accused Netflix of being “anti-American” and “woke” and even suggested halting the potential merger between Netflix and Warner Bros.
Previous Controversial Imagery of the Obamas
This recent endorsement by Trump came just weeks after he shared a highly controversial AI-generated video that depicted the faces of Barack and Michelle Obama superimposed onto monkeys in a jungle setting. The video quickly attracted criticism, even from some Republicans. Senator Tim Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, labeled the clip “the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House” and called for its removal. Other Republican figures, including Senator Pete Ricketts and Representative Mike Lawler, also condemned the video for its offensive nature.
White House Response and Shifting Explanations
The White House was forced to respond to the backlash, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt initially defending the video, claiming it was part of an internet meme that humorously positioned Trump as "King of the Jungle" and portrayed Democrats as characters from *The Lion King*. She urged the public to focus on more important matters. However, within hours, the narrative shifted, with the administration attributing the video post to a staffer's error, claiming it was uploaded mistakenly.
Barack Obama Addresses Trump’s Actions
In an interview with Tyler Cohen, former President Barack Obama commented on Trump’s offensive behavior, acknowledging that such actions were troubling to a majority of Americans. He emphasized the need for decency, respect, and kindness in public life. Obama described the actions of Trump and his supporters as a “clown show,” highlighting the erosion of respect for the office of the presidency. Obama’s comments were part of a broader call for a return to more respectful public discourse.
Trump Continues Criticism While Honoring Jesse Jackson
Following Obama’s remarks, Trump’s public criticisms of the former president continued. However, during a tribute to civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, Trump referenced Jackson’s role in Obama’s political career. Trump noted that Jackson had contributed to Obama’s election but had little respect for him personally. Trump remarked, “Jesse was a force of nature like few others before him. He had much to do with the election, without acknowledgement or credit, of Barack Hussein Obama, a man whom Jesse could not stand.”
These ongoing statements and actions reflect Trump’s persistent engagement in highly controversial rhetoric, not just targeting Barack Obama, but also those associated with his political legacy, including Michelle Obama. The recent spate of incidents highlights the heightened tensions in the political landscape as Trump continues to provoke strong reactions through his social media presence and public commentary.
