Former President Donald Trump has issued a full pardon to entertainment industry figure Tim Leiweke, just five months after the Department of Justice filed charges accusing him of participating in a bid-rigging plan connected to a Texas arena development. The official pardon was approved on Tuesday.

Leiweke, known for his long career in sports and live entertainment and once the head of AEG, was charged in July under Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act. The charge carried the potential for a decade-long prison sentence and fines reaching one million dollars. Prosecutors alleged that beginning in 2018, while serving as CEO of Oak View Group, he encouraged a competing company to withdraw from pursuit of the Moody Center contract at the University of Texas at Austin in return for future subcontracting opportunities. The venue opened in 2022.

The Justice Department previously stated that Oak View Group agreed to a fifteen million dollar penalty related to the case, while Legends Hospitality consented to a one and a half million dollar payment. In a July statement, Leiweke maintained that he had acted properly and intended to challenge the accusations, arguing that the legal claims were unsupported by both facts and law.

CNN reported that Leiwekes request for clemency was handled by Trey Gowdy, former congressman and current Fox News host. Beyond his tenure with Anschutz Entertainment Group, Leiweke also led Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and later founded Oak View Group in 2015 alongside Irving Azoff.

Following the indictment, Oak View Group announced that Leiweke would transition from chief executive to vice chairman of the board while keeping his shareholder status. The company confirmed Tuesday that Chris Granger has now been appointed as OVGs permanent CEO. A spokesperson for the organization stated that Leiweke can now move forward as the legal proceedings have concluded, emphasizing the companys continued focus on serving its partners under Grangers leadership.

Analysis: The Implications of Tim Leiweke's Pardon

The pardon of Tim Leiweke by former President Donald Trump concludes a high-profile legal chapter for the entertainment executive. The Department of Justice had charged Leiweke with bid-rigging under the Sherman Antitrust Act, carrying potential prison time and significant fines.

With the pardon now official, Leiweke avoids criminal liability and can fully resume his role in the industry without ongoing legal distraction. Oak View Group has already confirmed Chris Granger as permanent CEO, signaling a stabilization of leadership and continuity of business operations.

This case highlights the intersection of corporate strategy and legal oversight in major development projects. While the DOJ imposed substantial penalties on Oak View Group and Legends Hospitality, the individual pardon underscores the nuanced balance between personal accountability and corporate consequences in antitrust enforcement.
