Fred Trump III, nephew of former President Donald Trump, has publicly criticized his uncle for using offensive language on social media. During a Thanksgiving night post on Truth Social, Donald Trump targeted Minnesota's Somali community and Governor Tim Walz, describing the governor as "seriously retarded."
In response, Fred Trump III posted on X, stating, "The use of the 'R' word is never acceptable and is deeply hurtful. How has it come to this that we even need to debate this?"
The incident occurred on Thursday, Nov. 27, when Donald Trump posted a late-night message accusing certain citizens and patriots of being "just plain STUPID" regarding immigration, singling out the Somali population in Minnesota and Governor Walz. He wrote, The seriously retarded Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, does nothing, either through fear, incompetence, or both.
Days later, while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump reaffirmed his comments. When a journalist noted that many Americans find the word offensive, Trump, 79, responded, Yeah, I think theres something wrong with him, absolutely, sure. I think theres something wrong with him.
Fred Trump III, 63, shared that his 26-year-old son, William, has severe disabilities due to a KCNQ2 genetic mutation. William is nonverbal and relies on a wheelchair. Fred emphasized that such language is unacceptable, especially given his experience as a parent of a disabled child.
In his memoir, All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way, Fred recounted past encounters with his uncle, including a 2020 Oval Office meeting. What he expected to be a brief greeting turned into a 45-minute discussion with disability advocates, during which he hoped Donald Trump would show understanding. Instead, Fred alleged his uncle suggested that people with disabilities should just die due to the costs and challenges associated with their care.
Fred also recalled visiting Donald Trump at Briarcliff Manor later that year, seeking financial support for his sons medical fund. According to Fred, Trump again dismissed him, saying, I dont know. He doesnt recognize you. Maybe you should just let him die and move down to Florida.
When the book was released, Trumps spokesperson, Steven Cheung, denied the claims, calling them false and labeling the reports as completely fabricated and total fake news of the highest order. Cheung stated that anyone familiar with Donald Trump would know he would never use such language.
