Germany's federal and state governments discussing financing proposals

Germany's national and regional authorities are preparing to negotiate how public finances will be allocated and who will bear the costs of new legislative measures. During a gathering of state premiers in Berlin on Thursday, discussions will focus on determining which government level should handle the extra expenditures generated by federal laws.

The states are advocating for significant administrative reforms aimed at increasing efficiency and modernizing bureaucratic structures. The outcomes of the meeting of Germanys state leaders are expected to be disclosed at 2 pm local time (1300 GMT).

Following the conference, a session with Chancellor Friedrich Merz will take place at the Chancellery. Afterwards, both federal and state governments plan to jointly announce any agreements reached during the discussions.
