The Moses Lake School District has reported that renovation efforts at Groff Elementary are advancing smoothly, with special attention on the electrical grounding system and associated infrastructure. The school has successfully switched its electrical supply back to permanent service through the Grant County Public Utility District, after temporarily being supplied via a dedicated line designed to prevent outages in nearby neighborhoods during maintenance work.
"Reinstating permanent electricity at Groff represents a key milestone in a lengthy and intricate project," said Ryan Shannon, MLSD Director of Public Relations.
In late September, Groff Elementary was connected to a temporary power line by Grant PUD, allowing the facility to remain offline while crews addressed grounding and other electrical issues. MLSD stated, "Reactivating the building through its permanent electrical system shows that the corrective steps related to the grounding loop have advanced enough to restore full electrical functionality."
Shannon confirmed that construction and repair work remain on schedule, with expectations that Groff Elementary will be ready for use at the start of the 2026-27 school year. Additional improvements inside the building are also underway. Recently, crews removed the existing stair finishes and began preparing for repairs and refinishing. Floor layout markings have been completed, highlighting areas that require attention or removal.
"We appreciate the dedication of the crews who have brought the project to this stage and continue to focus on the remaining work," Shannon added.
Analysis: Progress on Groff Elementary Renovations
The renovation work at Groff Elementary School is steadily moving forward, with a significant milestone achieved in restoring permanent electricity to the building. This update highlights how the renovation team is systematically addressing essential infrastructure issues to ensure the facility is ready for the 2026-27 school year.
The reactivation of Groff's permanent electrical supply, after months of relying on a temporary power line, underscores the successful completion of the critical grounding system updates. This is no small feat, as the process has required thorough attention to the electrical grounding system, an issue that had initially disrupted the building's regular power supply. As noted by Ryan Shannon, Director of Public Relations at Moses Lake School District (MLSD), "Reinstating permanent electricity at Groff represents a key milestone in a lengthy and intricate project." This phase marks significant progress in ensuring the building's full operational readiness.
While the electrical system has been addressed, ongoing repairs inside the building remain a priority. Crews are actively working on restoring stair finishes and refining the floor layout. The attention to detail in these areas shows that MLSD is committed to ensuring both safety and functionality as part of the comprehensive renovation plan.
In conclusion, the renovation of Groff Elementary appears to be progressing according to schedule. With the goal of having the school fully operational by the beginning of the 2026-27 academic year, it’s clear that the district is taking the necessary steps to provide a modernized, safe learning environment for students and staff alike.
