An Indiana state lawmaker from the Republican Party has declared opposition to President Donald Trumps attempt to redraw the states congressional districts, following the presidents use of a derogatory term aimed at people with disabilities.

Many of you have asked my position on redistricting, Bohacek said. I have been an unwavering advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter, who has Down Syndrome. This is not the first time the president has used offensive language, and words have consequences.

Trump has a history of mocking individuals with disabilities, including public figures and journalists, such as the 2015 incident involving Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Serge Kovaleski. Bohacek emphasized that Trump must demonstrate he is deserving of a Republican majority before any redistricting occurs.

I will vote NO on redistricting. Perhaps the next ten months can show voters that his policies and conduct merit a congressional majority, Bohacek said.

The derogatory language has gained traction in some segments of the American right, despite past efforts to remove such terms from mainstream usage. Meanwhile, Governor Walz remains a recent target of Trumps insults.
