CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins criticized Republican lawmakers for focusing heavily on Hillary Clintons deposition while largely ignoring other key witnesses in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, highlighting a selective approach to questioning crucial figures like Les Wexner.
CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins addressed the conduct of Republican lawmakers regarding the ongoing investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and his associates. On Monday evening, Collins highlighted that while these lawmakers extensively questioned former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, they largely failed to attend or question other witnesses whose testimonies are crucial to the investigation, including billionaire Les Wexner, a former associate of Epstein.
Hillary Clinton's Deposition
Hillary Clinton was deposed for more than six hours in a closed-door session last Thursday, initially intended to be a public testimony. During this deposition, Clinton denied any involvement or association with Jeffrey Epstein, addressing questions about her interactions with the convicted sex offender multiple times. She stated that the questioning was repetitive, remarking that the same questions were asked repeatedly, which she considered unproductive.
Clinton also clarified her lack of personal knowledge or connection to Epstein, asserting, "I did not know Jeffrey Epstein, I never went to his island, I never went to his homes, I never went to his offices." Her deposition aimed to provide clarity on her relationship, or lack thereof, with Epstein amid a wider investigation into his network of associates.
Incident During Closed-Door Testimony
The deposition was briefly interrupted when Republican Representative Lauren Boebert of Colorado shared a photograph from inside the room with pro-Trump figure Benny Johnson, despite the session being closed to the public. Boebert explained that she had taken the photo because she admired Clinton's blue suit. When questioned by CNN correspondent MJ Lee about the leak, Boebert stated, "Well, I mean I really admired her blue suit. So I wanted to capture that for everyone." She had previously posted an image on social media showing her and other Republicans entering the deposition room, captioned "Game on," signaling the expectation of intense questioning.
Absence of Republicans from Other Depositions
Collins criticized Boebert and other Republican lawmakers for not attending depositions of other key witnesses. While Clinton faced hours of questioning, lawmakers did not appear for depositions of individuals such as Les Wexner, the former CEO of Victoria's Secret, whose testimony is central to understanding Epstein's operations. Collins emphasized the discrepancy, stating on CNN's The Source with Kaitlan Collins, "None of the lawmakers you saw there actually showed up to question other witnesses in this case, including Epstein's former billionaire ally, Les Wexner." This pointed to a selective focus on Clinton rather than on all significant figures involved in the investigation.
Clinton Addresses Conspiracy Theories
During the deposition, Clinton was also questioned about various conspiracy theories, including the unfounded "Pizzagate" allegations that falsely linked her to a child trafficking operation. Clinton condemned these claims as baseless and described them as "one of the most vile bogus conspiracy theories that was propagated on the internet." She expressed frustration over being questioned about topics rooted in disinformation rather than verifiable facts.
Upcoming Deposition of Bill Clinton
Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to provide his own deposition in the coming days. Reports have documented Bill Clinton's previous interactions with Epstein, including at least 16 trips on Epstein's private plane and photographs with women in a jacuzzi, made public by the Justice Department. Although no wrongdoing has been officially attributed to him, significant questions are expected regarding his connections to Epstein.
Hillary Clinton previewed her husband's deposition, noting, "I think the chronology of the connection that he had with Epstein ended years, several years before anything about Epstein's criminal activities came to light." This indicates that the former president's interactions with Epstein largely occurred before the criminal allegations against Epstein became publicly known.
Conclusion
The ongoing investigations into Jeffrey Epstein and his associates continue to draw scrutiny of high-profile figures. While Hillary Clinton's deposition received extensive attention, Kaitlan Collins' critique highlights the selective involvement of Republican lawmakers who focused on questioning Clinton while largely ignoring other key witnesses. As Bill Clinton prepares for his deposition, the investigation may further illuminate connections between Epstein and influential individuals, potentially revealing more about the broader network surrounding the financier.
