House Republican leaders are set to address reporters Tuesday morning amid growing scrutiny over Pentagon actions against suspected drug vessels in the Caribbean and directives from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The Trump administration maintains that congressional approval is not required for these military operations, even as tensions with Venezuela escalate.
The situation has created internal friction within the GOP. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La) previously described his current role as being in survival mode.
The press briefing also coincides with efforts from several Republican members pushing a discharge petition. They aim to trigger a vote on measures that would restrict lawmakers from trading stocks and introduce additional sanctions on Russia, as the conflict in Ukraine approaches its fourth year.
The conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. EST. A live video stream is available above.
