MAGA Supporters Struggle: More Than One Third of Trump Voters Report Facing the Most Severe Cost of Living Crisis Yet

Supporters of former President Donald Trump are increasingly feeling the financial squeeze. A recent survey shows that over one-third of Trump voters believe the cost of living in the United States is at its highest level ever. More than half of those surveyed attribute at least some responsibility to the former president.

The poll, conducted for Politico, highlights the economic challenges facing Trump and the Republican Party as they aim to persuade voters of their economic policies ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Democrats have already leveraged affordability concerns to secure wins in several recent elections, including in New York City, New Jersey, and Virginia.

This is a warning Republicans need to take seriously. Securing the House in 2026 will require a coordinated effort, commented GOP strategist Ford OConnell.

The survey, which included 2,098 U.S. adults between November 14 and 17, found that 46 percent of respondents believe the current cost of living is the worst they have experienced. Among Trump 2024 voters, 37 percent expressed this concern, while 53 percent of voters who supported former Vice President Kamala Harris shared this sentiment.

The rising costs coincide with official data showing a 0.3 percent increase in the consumer price index (CPI) for September compared to the previous month, and a 3 percent rise year-over-year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Gas and food prices have also risen, though slightly less than economists predicted.

When asked about responsibility for the current economic situation, 46 percent of respondents said Trump holds all or most of the blame, while 29 percent cited former President Joe Biden. Among Trump voters, 37 percent held Biden fully accountable, while 25 percent blamed Trump entirely.

Opinions were split on whether Trump has had sufficient time to address the economy. Overall, 41 percent of respondents believe the president has had the opportunity to improve economic conditions but has not done so. Among Trump voters, 19 percent agreed, while 56 percent believed he has acted on his chance.

Trump is scheduled to visit Pennsylvania to promote his economic policies and reassure voters that his plans are effective. He has recently expressed frustration over public concerns about prices, asserting that inflation is easing and criticizing Democratic focus on affordability as misleading.

Despite these challenges, the administration recognizes the need to demonstrate tangible results from Trumps economic initiatives, such as tariffs and legislative measures. Reports indicate that Trump will begin a nationwide tour in Pennsylvania to communicate his economic agenda to key voters.
