Mamdani requests resignation of 179 City Hall workers upon assuming office: report

NEW YORK Zohran Mamdani, the mayor-elect of New York City, has requested that certain City Hall employees step down when he assumes office on January 1, according to his spokesperson.

The planned resignations, which will impact 179 employees, are set to reorganize staffing within political offices, including those managed by deputy mayors, The New York Times reported.

"As part of the normal process during a mayoral transition, the Mayor-elect and his team are crafting their City Hall strategy, which involves appointing new personnel to key positions to effectively implement their agenda," Mamdani's spokesperson told PIX11 News.

Recently, Mamdani named over 400 city officials to 17 transition committees responsible for providing both staffing and policy recommendations. His core transition team features alumni from both the de Blasio and Adams administrations.

Mamdani intends to retain NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch in her current role, praising the significant drop in crime since her appointment. Elle Bisgaard-Church, who managed Mamdani's primary campaign, will serve as his chief of staff, while former de Blasio first deputy mayor Dean Fuleihan will assume the same post in Mamdanis administration.

More than 70,000 individuals have applied for roles in the incoming administration. The mayor-elect launched an online resume portal to provide opportunities for candidates with diverse experience levels to join City Hall.

Applicants can access the resume portal directly here.
