Police to discuss online abuse posts with councillors

Leaders from political parties and local police officials are scheduled to meet at Lancashire County Council to review social media content posted by certain councillors. The meeting, organized by the councils chief executive, will include the authoritys leader and opposition figures engaging with a representative from Lancashire Constabulary.

Reports indicate that several complaints have been submitted concerning members of Reform UK. Opposition councillors claim that some posts have been used to intimidate female colleagues.

A council spokesperson stated: "An informal discussion has been arranged with police colleagues to examine various social media posts recently shared by councillors across multiple political parties."

The police are expected to address Operation Ford during the meeting, a program aimed at enhancing the safety and security of local councillors.

Azhar Ali, the opposition leader at County Hall, expressed support for the initiative, stating: "Bullying, harassment, and intimidation should not be tolerated, and every councillor should feel safe in their role."

Stephen Atkinson, head of Reform UK at the council, responded: "I am disappointed that an informal session intended to promote strong community leadership and uphold high standards is being politicized."
