Republican Rep. Nancy Mace responds to rumors of retirement from Congress due to frustrations with Speaker Mike Johnson

Congresswoman Nancy Mace made it clear on Wednesday evening that she has no plans to leave Congress. The South Carolina Republican used social media to refute speculation that she might step down before completing her term.

Earlier, The New York Times reported that Mace is among a group of Republicans expressing dissatisfaction with House Speaker Mike Johnson, criticizing his leadership style and the treatment of female legislators under his tenure. The report mentioned that Mace had spoken with colleagues about meeting Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene to discuss following a similar path, after Greene announced her resignation in early January following a public dispute with former President Donald Trump.

The unexpected announcement from Greene raised concerns about potential GOP departures that could threaten the party's slim House majority. NBC News also reported that Mace was planning a meeting with Greene to share grievances, citing an anonymous source familiar with the situation.

Addressing the rumors directly, Mace wrote on X, Retiring is a BIG FAT NO from me. Not sure why the internet is running with this like wildfire. She emphasized that disagreements with Johnson, such as her support for a House discharge petition to release Department of Justice files on Jeffrey Epstein, have not prompted her to leave Congress. The petition ultimately passed and became law after Trump reversed his position in favor of it.

Mace highlighted the spread of misinformation online: Internet is wild. So too are my opponents spreading this nonsense. Media catches one tiny piece of an overheard conversation and loses it. She confirmed frustrations over legislative processes and delays in codifying certain Trump Executive Orders but firmly denied any plans to resign.

While she is not retiring, Mace is preparing for a future run for South Carolina governor in 2026.
