Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich has disputed assertions from Trump supporters that Thanksgiving meals are less expensive this year. In a recent video and Substack newsletter, Reich highlighted the true economic situation.

Reich, who served in President Bill Clintons Cabinet, explained why the prices of turkey, side dishes, desserts, coffee, and other staples have continued to climb during Donald Trumps second term, despite Trumps campaign promise to lower costsa promise Reich described as the main reason people voted for him.

Grocery prices are at their highest levels in years, and several of Trumps policies are exacerbating the problem, Reich said, emphasizing his long-standing criticism of Trumps economic approach. Trump does not want the public to understand this. He is actively working to hide how rapidly prices are increasing.

Reich concluded: The reality is that rising grocery costs caused by Trumps failure to deliver on his key promise affect everyone, regardless of political preference, making this Thanksgiving particularly expensive.

Analysis of Robert Reich's Critique on Thanksgiving Costs

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich has challenged the claims made by Trump supporters that Thanksgiving meals are more affordable this year. In his recent video and Substack newsletter, Reich presented a detailed breakdown of the current economic situation, which contradicts the narrative that prices have been lowered under Donald Trump's second term.

Reich, who served in Bill Clinton’s Cabinet, explained that while grocery prices have been climbing for several years, Trump's policies have been a significant factor in exacerbating the rise in costs. He specifically pointed to the increasing prices of Thanksgiving staples like turkey, side dishes, and desserts. According to Reich, these ongoing price hikes reflect the failure of Trump to fulfill his campaign promise to lower costs, which was a major reason many people voted for him.

Reich emphasized that grocery prices are at their highest levels in years, a situation he claims is worsened by the economic policies pursued during Trump's presidency. In his view, Trump has actively worked to obscure the true impact of these rising costs on the public. The former Secretary concluded that regardless of political affiliation, the rising grocery costs—rooted in Trump’s inability to address the economic issues—are making this Thanksgiving notably more expensive for everyone.
