Meghan Markles recent interview with Harper's Bazaar drew attention when it was revealed that the Duchess of Sussex was announced to two guests using her royal title. This led to public criticism, but a royal expert defended Meghan, stating she should not be blamed for the awkward moment. The revelation comes weeks after it was shared that Meghans former husband always knew she would eventually marry Prince Harry.

The Royal Title Incident

During a meeting at an Upper East Side brownstone belonging to a friend, Harper's Bazaar reporter Kaitlyn Greenidge noted an unusual situation. Despite there being only two guests present, Meghan was formally introduced as the "Duchess of Sussex."

"When I enter, the house manager announces, 'Meghan, Duchess of Sussex,' even though we appear to be the only other two people in the house," Greenidge recalled.

The announcement sparked criticism that Meghan was clinging to her royal title after stepping down as a working royal. However, expert Jennie Bond suggested the blame likely lay with the house manager, not Meghan. "It sounds so absurd, given the context that this was the second time the interviewer met Meghan, and the first had been informal," Bond said. She added that Americans often get very excited about titles and that Meghan should not be criticized for this.

Ex-Husband Knew About Future Royal Marriage

The discussion of Meghans royal title incident follows revelations about her ex-husband, Trevor Engelson. Reality TV personality Bethenny Frankel shared on "The Toast" podcast that Engelson had always been confident Meghan would marry Prince Harry.

Frankel, who first met Engelson in 2016, described how she learned of his confidence in Meghans future. After spotting Meghan and Harry in photos months later, she asked Engelson if Meghan would "close," meaning get married. He assured her, "Oh, she'll close."

Meghans Past Relationships

Meghan and Engelson dated beginning in 2004 and married in September 2011, divorcing in 2014 due to "irreconcilable differences." Following the split, Meghan briefly dated Canadian chef Cory Vitiello before meeting Prince Harry in May 2016. The couple married two years later at St Georges Chapel in Windsor and now reside in Montecito, California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Photo-Gate and Kris Jenner Party

Frankel also discussed Meghans so-called "photo-gate" at Kris Jenners 70th birthday party, where images of the Sussexes were reportedly removed at their request to avoid public attention. Frankel suggested Meghans public persona has evolved rapidly, making it challenging to navigate different social contexts.

Sources claimed Meghan and Harry were uncomfortable at Jenners star-studded event due to the overwhelming presence of cameras and media crews. An insider said the couple left before midnight, missing a surprise Bruno Mars performance, describing the situation as "Kardashian chaos."

Analysis: Meghan Markle’s Royal Title and Public Perception

Meghan Markle’s recent interview with Harper's Bazaar has reignited public debate surrounding her use of the "Duchess of Sussex" title, despite stepping down from her role as a working royal. The controversy was sparked when it was revealed that Meghan was introduced by her royal title at a private meeting with just two guests present. While some critics saw this as an attempt to cling to her royal status, others, including royal expert Jennie Bond, suggest the blame lies elsewhere—likely with the house manager who made the announcement. In any case, this incident highlights the complexities Meghan faces in balancing her public image post-royal life.

The royal title incident has become a focal point for broader conversations about Meghan's role in the public eye and her relationship with the British monarchy. Critics argue that, by using her title in informal settings, Meghan risks undermining her credibility as an independent figure. However, Bond’s defense underscores an important point: titles hold significant weight in American society, where people often hold a fascination with royal status. In this context, Meghan’s title may simply reflect a cultural expectation, rather than a deliberate effort to remain tied to her royal past.

Another layer of complexity emerges when considering the ongoing narrative about Meghan’s past relationships. According to reality TV personality Bethenny Frankel, Meghan's ex-husband Trevor Engelson had always been confident she would marry Prince Harry. This revelation sheds light on the long-standing perception that Meghan was destined for royal life, regardless of her past marriage. While this insight may fuel speculation about Meghan's motivations, it also highlights how public perception often overshadows the personal realities of her relationships.

Meghan's experiences following her marriage to Prince Harry have become a mirror for her evolving public persona. From her divorce to her relationship with Harry, and the recent "photo-gate" incident at Kris Jenner’s birthday party, it’s clear that Meghan struggles to navigate her identity in an ever-changing media landscape. The Sussexes' departure from Jenner's event—despite the allure of a Bruno Mars performance—further reinforces the pressures of being in the public eye, especially when one is trying to maintain a low profile while surrounded by intense media scrutiny.

Ultimately, Meghan Markle’s royal title incident serves as a microcosm of the larger challenges she faces. Whether it’s navigating the expectations tied to her title or managing the complexities of her past relationships, Meghan continues to be a figure whose every move is analyzed and scrutinized. The public’s fascination with her royal identity, combined with the media's portrayal of her personal life, ensures that she remains a controversial and multifaceted figure in the ongoing story of the British monarchy and its modern-day relevance.
