Shapiro: Americans are not very concerned about Hegseth controversy

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro stated on Wednesday that most Americans are largely indifferent to the ongoing controversy surrounding Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the September strike on a vessel in the Caribbean.

According to Shapiro, reports from major outlets present conflicting narratives. One account suggested the strike could be interpreted as a potential war crime, while another report contradicted that claim. He noted that the contrasting coverage has created confusion rather than clarity.

The dispute intensified after lawmakers questioned Hegseths decision making and reacted to claims that he instructed military personnel to eliminate all individuals aboard a boat suspected of transporting drug operatives.

Navy Adm. Frank Bradley, who was responsible for the Sept. 2 operation, told members of Congress on Thursday that Hegseth never directed forces to target every person on the vessel. Bradley dismissed assertions that a follow up strike was ordered against survivors who were no longer engaged in combat.

Shapiro argued that the situation has been overstated and said the latest reports feel more like a diversion than a matter of national concern. He suggested that political motives may be influencing the scrutiny ahead of next years midterm contests.

During the same broadcast, commentator Stephen A Smith remarked that former President Trumps actions related to Venezuela, which coincided with regional anti narcotics operations, could be interpreted as a strategic reminder of his long standing criticisms of both the Venezuelan government and his political opponents.
