The US Peace Institute once filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump. Now it is named after him.

The United States Institute of Peace, a government agency with 41 years of experience working with the executive branch to mediate international conflicts, has been officially renamed in honor of former President Donald Trump, according to an announcement from the U.S. State Department on social media Wednesday.

Welcome to the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace, the department wrote on X, adding, The best is yet to come. The post described Trump as the greatest dealmaker in our nations history.

Trumps global business ventures, including skyscrapers, hotels, and golf courses bearing his name, span multiple continents.

Earlier this year, the institute filed a lawsuit against Trump and his Department of Government Efficiency, disputing the administrations attempts to take control of its headquarters and install new leadership. Congress established and funded the independent institute, which became a target of DOGEs initiative to streamline federal agencies. A federal court eventually allowed the takeover to proceed.

Over the past two years, Republican lawmakers have repeatedly introduced legislation and proposals celebrating Trump, including a 2024 bill by Rep. Paul Gosar that would have replaced President William McKinleys portrait on the $500 bill with Trumps. Other proposals have suggested awarding Trump the Congressional Gold Medal, renaming major transportation hubs or roadways after him, and even applying his name to the nations Exclusive Economic Zone.

Since returning to the presidency, Trump has promoted or sold bibles, coins, and previously, Trump-branded sneakers and NFT trading cards. Throughout his career as a real estate developer and television personality, his name has been attached to high-rise hotels, casinos, airlines, vodka, and a now-closed university that paid $25 million in restitution over fraud allegations.
