Supreme Court to Hear Major Music Piracy Case

The U.S. Supreme Court will review a case with potential nationwide implications for internet users. Cox Communications, a broadband provider, faces a $1 billion judgment for allegedly failing to prevent music piracy. The company argues that the ruling could threaten internet access for Americans.

Cox was sued by Sony Music Entertainment along with over 50 other record labels. While a jury initially awarded the music industry $1 billion, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals later overturned the damages. The Supreme Court will now decide if Cox can be held responsible for "materially contributing" to copyright violations. Lawyers for Cox warn that applying the lower court's standard could force internet providers to suspend service for homes, hospitals, and other locations based on unverified claims against individual IP addresses.

Suspect Remains at Large After Stockton Birthday Party Shooting

A suspect is still being sought following a tragic shooting at a child's birthday party in Stockton, California, which left four dead, including three children aged 8, 9, and 14, and one adult. Eleven others were injured.

The shooting occurred inside a banquet hall on November 29, 2025, where 100 to 150 people were gathered. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward. "This is the time for our community to show that we will not tolerate violence targeting children," said San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow.
