Despite firm denials, senior aides of Governor Ron DeSantis have connections with a GOP candidate who has stirred controversy in the Florida governor race. The candidate, Jay Collins, has faced accusations from Fred Fishback, another contender, who claims that Collins attempted to pressure his uncle into persuading him to withdraw from the race.
Fishback shared the alleged incident on social media, stating that Collins met with his uncle behind his back and urged him to get Fishback to drop out and support his candidacy. In a post, Fishback wrote: Today I learned that Jay Collins went to my own uncle and asked him to pressure me to drop out of the Florida Governor race. After meeting with Collins without my knowledge, my uncle called me over the weekend urging me to drop out and endorse Collins.
Collins, however, dismissed the allegations, maintaining that he was focused on his official duties and not on responding to what he called false and fabricated stories. A spokesperson for Collins stated, Lt. Gov. Jay Collins is focused on serving the people, not engaging with baseless claims.
In a recent conference held in Boca Raton, Fishback's uncle was asked whether he believed his nephew was being used in the race for governor. He seemed to acknowledge the situation, saying, I can see the crash. I can see the crash and burn, and he does not see it.
