President Donald Trump stood by his controversial description of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, calling him seriously retarded, during a Sunday press session. Trump claimed there is something wrong with the governor.
When a reporter on Air Force One asked Trump if he still supported using that term to describe Walz, the former president replied, Yeah, I think theres something wrong with him. Absolutely. Sure. You have a problem with it? You know what? I think theres something wrong with him.
Trump criticized Walz for his handling of refugee resettlement, particularly regarding Somalia. Anybody that would do what he did, anybody that would allow those people into his state and pay billions of dollars out to Somalia We give billions of dollars to Somalia. Its not even a country because it doesnt function like a country. Its got a name but it doesnt function like a country, Trump said. He concluded, Yeah, theres something wrong with Walz.
The remarks follow a Thanksgiving message posted by Trump on Truth Social, where he called Walz seriously retarded and expressed concern over Somali refugee communities in Minnesota. Hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia are completely taking over the once great State of Minnesota. Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for prey as our wonderful people stay locked in their apartments and houses hoping against hope that they will be left alone, Trump wrote. The seriously retarded Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, does nothing, either through fear, incompetence, or both.
In response, Governor Walz challenged Trump to release his MRI results, rejecting the personal attack.
Analysis: Trump's Controversial Remarks on Governor Tim Walz
Former President Donald Trump's recent comments about Minnesota Governor Tim Walz have sparked significant backlash, highlighting the polarizing nature of his rhetoric. Trump stood by his controversial description of Walz as "seriously retarded," a term widely condemned for its offensive and outdated connotations. When pressed by a reporter on Air Force One, Trump reiterated his belief that "there’s something wrong" with Walz, particularly focusing on his policies regarding refugee resettlement.
The former president's statements echo his previous Thanksgiving post on Truth Social, where he criticized Walz's handling of Somali refugee communities in Minnesota. Trump's remarks, which claimed that Somali gangs were "taking over" the state, also brought into question the handling of foreign aid to Somalia. He implied that Minnesota's state leadership was to blame for the challenges faced by the local population, accusing Walz of either fear or incompetence in addressing these issues.
In response, Governor Walz rejected Trump's personal attack, challenging the former president to release his MRI results, a move that further fueled the heated back-and-forth between the two. These comments are likely to continue dividing public opinion, with many arguing that Trump's language crosses the line of decency, while others support his criticisms of Walz's governance.
The ongoing debate underscores the broader political divides in the country, with personal insults increasingly becoming part of the political discourse. The situation calls into question the level of respect and civility in public political dialogue, especially in the context of ongoing issues such as immigration and refugee resettlement.
