A longtime acquaintance of Donald Trump, whom he has affectionately referred to as champ over the years, firmly stated that he does not support the MAGA movement. Piers Morgan, 60, has maintained a friendship with Trump, 79, since his victory on The Celebrity Apprentice in 2008, an achievement he admitted was influenced by following Trumps preferred approach.

After nearly two decades of a friendship he described as challenging at times, Morgan rejected any connection to Trumps most devoted supporters, particularly after being labeled a MAGA supporter by Politico alongside far-right figure Laura Loomer.

I think this will come as shocking news to actual MAGA supporters, Morgan told Mediaite, defining himself instead as an old school non-woke liberal centrist.

Throughout Trumps first term, Morgan has openly criticized the former president, including his handling of COVID-19, claims of election fraud, and the January 6 Capitol riot. In a 2020 Daily Mail piece, Morgan stated that America doesnt want a King Trump. He later reaffirmed his belief in the legitimacy of the 2020 election during an appearance by Trump on his show Uncensored, which prompted Trump to call him a fool.

Despite these disagreements, Morgan has acknowledged Trumps loyalty as a friend, though he described him as sometimes impetuous and irrational. Following the 2024 assassination attempt on Trump during his campaign, Morgan praised his friends courage, saying he has balls of steel, a comment that Trump reportedly appreciated and discussed with him afterward.

Reflecting on Trumps 2024 election success, Morgan remarked, You cant help but admire the comeback. Hes proved me wrong, and hes proved a lot of people wrong. Earlier this year, he shared on Instagram that Trump called him in great form during his U.K. visit, allegedly following Morgans suggestion to see Windsor Castle.

However, Morgan made clear that he does not identify with Trumps staunchest supporters, stating he is about as far removed politically from Ms. Loomer as any human being could be. In 2024, Morgan banned Loomer from his show after she claimed censorship, calling her a complete loony on X.

But Donald Trump is a long-time friend, and remains so, Morgan concluded, reiterating his stance as an old school non-woke liberal centrist.

Author’s Analysis: Piers Morgan’s Relationship with Trump Distinct from MAGA Support

Piers Morgan has clarified that despite his long-standing friendship with Donald Trump, he does not align himself with the MAGA movement. This distinction comes after Morgan was publicly associated with far-right figures, which he firmly rejected, describing himself as an “old school non-woke liberal centrist.”

Morgan’s commentary highlights a nuanced position: he acknowledges Trump’s personal loyalty and resilience, particularly following the 2024 assassination attempt, while continuing to critique Trump’s political actions, including handling of COVID-19, claims of election fraud, and the January 6 Capitol events. His past criticisms underscore a clear separation from partisan support.

By emphasizing personal friendship over political alignment, Morgan underscores the complexity of public figures maintaining relationships without endorsing all associated ideologies. His rejection of far-right alignment, such as distancing from Laura Loomer, reinforces his self-identification as politically centrist despite a high-profile association with Trump.
