Vice President Vance praises Mamdani for focusing on affordability

In a recent interview with NBC News, Vice President JD Vance maintained a close alignment with President Donald Trump while discussing emerging political figures. Vance highlighted New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, noting that the young leader is at least listening to people regarding affordability challenges.

Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, gained attention during a campaign centered on cost-of-living issues, which had drawn criticism from Trump prior to a cordial post-election meeting between the two. Vance commented, Im not a communist, and I think he is, but his emphasis on tackling New York City's severe affordability crisis is smart, and hes at least listening to people.

Vance also expressed admiration for other progressive figures, saying he is fascinated by Senator Bernie Sanders and finds Representative Ro Khanna occasionally interesting. He added, Most politicians dont even listen to people. I would put Mamdani, Bernie, and Ro Khanna in the group who, at least sometimes, do.

Regarding his own political trajectory, Vance, a leading contender for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, emphasized his commitment to his current role rather than future ambitions. I focus on doing my job well right now, rather than thinking about the future, he told NBC, explaining why he avoids discussing 2028 at this stage.

On loyalty to the president, Vance was clear: The president needs a vice president who is loyal and doesnt use the media to undermine him. You will never hear me attack the president of the United States. If I pursue another office in the future, people can question my decisions then, but I will never attack the president while serving in this role.
