With Thanksgiving over and Black Friday shopping behind us, space enthusiasts might be looking for an exciting event to follow. SpaceX is scheduled to launch its well-known Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California, in early December. This mission will deploy additional Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit, expanding the company's global internet network.
Launch Location and Viewing
Residents of Palm Springs and nearby Riverside County have the chance to witness the rocket's ascent in person. Alternatively, anyone can tune in online via SpaceXs live webcast of the launch.
Launch Schedule
SpaceX aims to lift off on Monday, December 1, with a four-hour launch window beginning at 6:10 p.m. PT. A backup launch opportunity is planned for the following day in case of delays, according to the FAAs operational advisory.
Mission Details
The mission will use the two-stage, 230-foot Falcon 9 rocket to place 27 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit, where they can quickly circle the planet and provide internet service worldwide.
How to Watch
SpaceX offers a live stream of its launches on its official website and the X TV mobile app, starting about five minutes before liftoff. Updates may also be shared on the social media platform X for viewers at home.
About SpaceX and Starlink
Founded by Elon Musk in 2002, SpaceX is headquartered at Starbase in South Texas near the U.S.-Mexico border. The company conducts extensive rocket testing, including flights of its 400-foot Starship vehicle, and is planning to make Starbase its own city. SpaceX operates frequent Falcon 9 launches from California and Florida, delivering Starlink satellites and conducting commercial crewed missions with the Dragon spacecraft, which remains the only U.S. vehicle capable of transporting astronauts to the International Space Station.
Starlink, SpaceX's satellite internet service, now operates over 8,700 satellites, providing global connectivity. SpaceX has consistently launched these satellites for more than six years, supported by contracts from NASA and the Department of Defense for various payloads and classified missions.
