Quarterback cut by Vikings after backing out of tryout with Broncos

The Minnesota Vikings have released quarterback Desmond Ridder from their practice squad. Ridder had been added last week following starter J.J. McCarthys placement in the NFLs concussion protocol.

This marks Ridders fifth NFL team and his second engagement this year after a brief period with the Cincinnati Bengals. Earlier this year, Ridder had opted out of a tryout with the Denver Broncos, prompting Broncos head coach Sean Payton to comment that the quarterback was "possibly thinking about what he wants to do with his career."

Ridder seemed ready to accept a backup quarterback role, but with his release, he is now a free agent once again.

Elsewhere, former Broncos players are finding new opportunities: the Los Angeles Chargers added running back Royce Freeman to their practice squad, the New Orleans Saints signed wide receiver Samori Toure, and the Los Angeles Rams picked up tight end Nick Vannett. Meanwhile, Denver is gearing up for a Week 14 matchup on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders.
