Steve Sarkisian's Surprising Move in the Transfer Portal During College Football Season

The Texas Longhorns wrapped up their regular season with a 9-3 record and now await the College Football Playoff selection, with no further games to influence the committees decision. Despite this, head coach Steve Sarkisian is focused on strengthening the roster for the upcoming season, as the early signing period starts Wednesday and the transfer portal is set to open soon.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Sarkisian identified key areas where Texas plans to target players through the portal. The positions highlighted were defensive line, linebacker, secondary, running back, and notably, the offensive line.

"The offensive line is an area we are prioritizing in the portal," Sarkisian explained. Remarkably, Texas has not recruited an offensive lineman via the transfer portal since its inception in 2018. The offensive line is closely tied to the running game, an area that also needs reinforcement. This season, the Longhorns top rusher, Quintevion Wisner, totaled 597 yards and three touchdowns on 131 carries, while quarterback Arch Manning contributed 244 yards and eight touchdowns on 83 carries.

Texas will learn whether it has earned a spot in the College Football Playoff on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET.
