Carolina Herrera's Granddaughter Shares the Most Surprising Aspect of Attending Le Bal des Débutantes (Exclusive)

On November 29, Carolina Lansing, the 21-year-old granddaughter of renowned designer Carolina Herrera, attended the prestigious Le Bal des Dbutantes at Pariss Hotel Shangri-La. Lansing was one of 19 young women making their society debut, each dressed in custom couture creations.

While the events glamour lived up to its legendary reputation, Lansing revealed that the atmosphere inside the ball was far more relaxed than she had anticipated.

For decades, Le Bal des Dbutantes has been celebrated as the ultimate introduction to society for young women. Each year, distinguished families gather at the Hotel Shangri-La for a formal evening where debutantes collaborate with designers to craft personalized haute couture gowns. First held in 1958 and revived in 1992 by Ophlie Renouard, the invite-only event is known for its elegance and star-studded guest list.

Lansing attended the ball wearing a polka-dotted gown from her grandmother Carolina Herreras fashion house. Though donning her familys label seemed natural, she was struck by how welcoming and laid-back the environment was for her and the other debutantes.

"I went in thinking, 'There will be a formal sit-down dinner. Im nervous about where Ill sit and what Ill have to do,'" Lansing explained. "But the event was surprisingly relaxed. The setting was lavish and everyone was dressed in extravagant outfits, yet the mood felt casual and friendly."

Among the highlights for Lansing were the lively dance floor and the natural flow of conversation. She described how the debutantes could freely mingle with guests, visiting their parents during dinner and engaging in spontaneous interactions.

Despite its high-profile nature, Le Bal maintains relatively few formal rules. Lansing noted that the event encourages proper conduct without imposing rigid restrictions. Spanish royal HRH Princess Eulalia de Orlans-Borbon has mentioned that debutantes are asked to avoid sharing social media posts of their couture looks to maintain an air of mystery, but beyond that, the expectations are largely unspoken.

"Theres an implicit understanding that everyone will behave well, given the public attention on the event," Lansing added. "Its more about presenting yourself gracefully than following strict guidelines."
