Officials have announced the fare structure for newly opened train stations in Birmingham, serving local communities after a long absence. Moseley, Kings Heath, and Pineapple Road stations will offer regular services, with ticket prices starting from 3.10 for a return trip, and trains running every half hour during the day.

Prices for accessing recently opened train stations disclosed

Officials have recently disclosed the fare structure for newly established railway stations in Birmingham, which are set to serve local communities after a long absence of passenger rail services. The three stations on the Camp Hill line—Moseley, Kings Heath, and Pineapple Road—are scheduled to open shortly, reviving train services that have not been available since the 1940s.

Ticket Prices and Zone Classification

During a public meeting held in Moseley, representatives from Transport for West Midlands confirmed that all three stations would be classified under Zone 3. The ticket pricing for various routes has been disclosed as follows:

  • Moseley to New Street Station:
    • Return ticket at peak times: £5.50
    • Return ticket off-peak: £3.70
  • Moseley to Kings Heath:
    • Anytime return: £3.90
    • Off-peak return: £3.10
    • Peak single: £3.10
  • Kings Heath to Pineapple Road:
    • Anytime return: £3.90
    • Off-peak return: £3.10
    • Peak single: £3.10
  • Moseley to Pineapple Road:
    • Anytime return: £4.30
    • Off-peak return: £3.60
    • Peak single: £3.50

Train Service Frequency

According to local councillor Izzy Knowles, trains will run every half hour during the day, with evening services (after 20:00) and Sunday services operating once per hour. The timetable may be subject to revisions in the future, as assured during the public meeting.

Community Reactions to Fare Prices

Residents of Moseley have voiced that the proposed rail fares are considered reasonable and are in line with current local bus fares. The existing bus services charge £3 for a single trip and £5.20 for a day pass. Several local residents shared their thoughts on the new rail fares:

Isaac Samuel: "£5.50 from here to Birmingham doesn't sound too bad." He also pointed out that £3 to Kings Heath seemed high for a relatively short distance.

The general sentiment among the residents indicates that the new train fares are comparable to local bus services, especially when factoring in options like the £5.20 day saver ticket for buses.

Context and Background

This fare announcement is part of a larger project to reopen passenger services along the Camp Hill line. The stations represent the first major expansion of rail access in the area since the mid-20th century. This is a significant milestone for Birmingham's public transport system and marks a new chapter for local commuters. The information has been reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, which regularly tracks updates from local councils and public services.

Further Developments and Updates

In addition to the new stations, the region has seen the completion of several infrastructure upgrades, including a new footbridge that enhances the rail route. However, the exact opening dates for the new stations are still pending. For ongoing updates and more information, follow BBC Birmingham on platforms such as BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
