Warning about bird flu cases confirmed in park

Visitors to a North Warwickshire park have been advised to avoid contact with wild birds following the confirmation of avian influenza cases. Authorities reported that the H5N1 virus was discovered at Kingsbury Water Park.

Officials have warned the public not to touch sick or deceased birds in the park or nearby areas. Despite the discovery, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has stated that the likelihood of humans contracting the virus remains "very low."

Dog owners are being urged to keep their pets on leads and remain on designated pathways, while visitors are asked to refrain from feeding wild birds. Signs providing guidance for safe park use have been installed throughout the site.

Councillor Anne-Marie Sonko, responsible for health matters at Warwickshire County Council, emphasized that the measures aim to protect both the public and wildlife. Dr. Shade Agboola, the local public health director, confirmed that the authorities are monitoring the situation closely but reiterated that human risk is minimal.
