A panel of jurors has officially been sworn in for the trial of a man facing charges of killing his cousin with an axe in East Sussex. Donald Excell, 49, stands accused of murdering 58-year-old Rita Lambourne at her Bexhill residence on 12 February. Excell has entered pleas of not guilty to both the murder and the possession of an axe.
The proceedings are being held at Lewes Crown Court and are anticipated to continue for approximately three weeks.
An inquest revealed that Lambourne died from multiple injuries to her chest. She was remembered as a "deeply cherished member of the community" who was "loved by family and friends."
