A key section of Whiteladies Road in Bristol will be completely shut for almost two weeks as part of a new phase of flood prevention investigations. Engineers have already begun work on the northbound lane near the Victoria Rooms, which is currently closed to traffic.

From the beginning of December, the closure will be extended to both directions between Queens Road and Tyndalls Park Road. This full shutdown will remain in place until Friday 12 December while specialists carry out detailed drainage assessments beneath the roadway.

During the closure, several bus routes including the 1, 2, 2A, 3, 4, 71, T7, U1, U1N and Y6 services will operate on diverted paths. Local authorities confirmed that pedestrian access through the affected area will stay open throughout the works.

The southbound lane is scheduled to reopen on 13 December, with the complete road network expected to return to normal operation before the end of the year.

Further construction activity is planned to continue into 2026. These future stages will focus on finalising drainage systems, improving pavements, upgrading cycling infrastructure and completing resurfacing of the road.
