Grizzly bear caught on video playing with trail cam

In a fascinating new video, a grizzly bear in the Yukon wilderness was filmed exhibiting curious and unexpected behavior towards a trail camera. The footage, shared by Yukon Wildlife Cams, shows the bear interacting with the camera in a manner that experts describe as "peculiar." This incident highlights the intelligence and adaptability of wildlife when confronted with unusual objects in their environment.

Earlier footage from Yukon Wildlife Cams has also shown various animals reacting to the presence of trail cameras. In 2002, a video captured a coyotes animated response to a camera mounted on a tree. Yukon Wildlife expert, Troup, noted that coyotes are naturally wary of trail cameras, explaining that animals, in general, are quick to detect anomalies in their surroundings, whether through sight, sound, or smell.

The behavior of animals like the coyote in 2002 and the grizzly bear in the Yukon is not isolated. A similar reaction was observed in 2023 when wolves in Yellowstone National Park were filmed responding to the presence of a trail camera. Such footage gives researchers valuable insight into the ways animals interact with and adapt to human-made technology in their natural habitats.
