Jessica Simpson and her estranged husband, Eric Johnson, shared a warm family Thanksgiving. The singer, actress, and entrepreneur confirmed to TMZ that she spent the holiday with Johnson at her mother Tinas home. Its my kids father, she explained. And all their grandparents were there. Family comes first.
Simpson, 45, and Johnson, 46, are parents to three children: daughters Maxwell Drew, 13, Birdie Mae, 6, and son Ace Knute, 12. The couple announced their separation in January after nearly a decade of marriage.
Speaking about navigating breakups during the holiday season, Simpson emphasized the importance of unconditional love. She added, No matter what, your child is half the other person. Always show respect in what you say around them so they can have a positive perspective.
On Thanksgiving, Simpson revealed that her mother Tina handled most of the cooking, while she and her sister Ashlee, 41, watched the Dallas Cowboys. Earlier this year, Simpson released parts one and two of her Nashville Canyon EP and is scheduled to perform at Foxwood Casino in Connecticut on Dec. 7.
Simpson shared that her children attended the Yale versus Harvard football game in New Haven, Connecticut, on Nov. 22 with Johnson, who played football at Yale before turning professional. They had a blast, she said. Its where their dad played, and they even spotted a huge billboard promoting my show. They sent me pictures, super excited.
Reflecting on life after her split, Simpson told PEOPLE in October that she is learning to embrace unexpected changes. I feel like we get caught up in numbers. At 45, I never imagined being single again as a mom of three. But its part of the journey destiny has for me.
In the same month, speaking to Extra at the premiere of Alls Fair, where she had a cameo, Simpson shared that she is enjoying her newfound independence. I think I'm into younger men at the moment. After separation, younger guys appreciate the confidence of an older woman. Im having fun!
