Man arrested for injuring police officers in Derry

A 20-year-old male has been formally charged after allegedly attacking law enforcement personnel and a custody detention officer in Londonderry. The arrest follows an early morning incident on Thursday in the Collon Lane area, during which four police officers sustained injuries.

The individual faces several charges, including three counts of assault on police officers, two counts of assault on a person designated by the police, and possession of a Class B controlled substance. He is scheduled to appear before Londonderry Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Additionally, a 21-year-old man, detained during the same event on suspicion of attempted murder and other offences, continues to be held in police custody.

Authorities report that two men were taken into custody after officers entered the Collon Lane residence at around 2:00 a.m. GMT on Thursday. During attempts to apprehend a suspect, two officers were reportedly attacked with a five-inch knife.
