A farmer in East Yorkshire has transformed a former poultry barn into a storage and display area to accommodate donations for a local charity running low on space.

Jacob's Well Appeal, based in Beverley, assists individuals locally and internationally by selling and distributing donated items to those in need.

Rob Byass, 69, the barn owner and a volunteer for the charity, described the contributions as invaluable, especially at a time when many are under financial pressure. Organizations like this provide essential support.

The barn, situated at High Eske Farm in Tickton, welcomes the public every Friday from 14:00 to 17:00 GMT.

Donated goods, including clothes and household items, are sold at a fraction of their usual price to raise funds for both local assistance and international aid efforts.

Founded in 1982, Jacob's Well Appeal initially focused on sending medical aid to some of the world's poorest regions. Today, it collaborates with the council, local food banks, and refugee organizations to supply furniture and household essentials to financially struggling families.

The charity operates from Swinemoor Lane in Beverley, where sales fund the logistics of sending aid overseas and also support local residents in need.

Mr. Byass explained, The barn was previously used for poultry. Since it's temporarily unoccupied, I offered it to Jacob's Well to help them store and sell furniture because they were turning away quality donations.

I really enjoy helping. Its a refreshing change, and I love being involved, he added.

Rev John Beynon, CEO of Jacob's Well Appeal, noted, We receive a large volume of donations. Theres enough clothing to assist nearly every person in East Yorkshire.

He mentioned that their storage facilities were reaching capacity. Hospitals frequently donate medical supplies, leaving little room for furniture sales. When the farmer offered his barn, it was a perfect solutiona spacious area ideal for displaying furniture.

Mr. Beynon expressed optimism about the charitys future: The barn has helped raise funds while saving people money. Many enjoy browsing second-hand furniture and often find items that are like new at a fraction of the cost.

Analysis: Community Impact of Barn Donation for Charity

The recent initiative by Rob Byass, who converted a former poultry barn at High Eske Farm into a storage and display area for Jacob's Well Appeal, highlights the growing role of community-driven solutions in addressing local charity needs. With the charity facing space shortages due to the increasing volume of donations, Byass's offer has proven to be an invaluable asset for the organization.

Jacob's Well Appeal has long been instrumental in supporting individuals both locally and internationally. Founded in 1982, it initially focused on sending medical aid to impoverished regions, and over time, its mission has expanded to providing essential household goods to struggling families. The charity's collaboration with local food banks and refugee organizations has made it a cornerstone of community support in East Yorkshire.

By converting the barn into a donation hub, Byass has not only alleviated a logistical challenge for the charity but also contributed to the local economy. By offering donated goods, including clothes and household items, at a fraction of their usual price, the barn serves as a source of affordable essentials for local residents while raising funds for international aid projects.

Rev. John Beynon, CEO of Jacob's Well Appeal, expressed the positive impact the barn has had on the charity's operations. The spacious barn allows them to continue providing much-needed furniture and other items to local families, while also maintaining their efforts to send aid abroad. The donations, which include a significant amount of medical supplies, are now more efficiently stored and displayed, ensuring that none go to waste.

Overall, the conversion of the poultry barn stands as an excellent example of how collaboration between local individuals and charities can provide meaningful solutions to pressing issues. Byass's voluntary efforts, alongside the support of local donors, contribute to a network of assistance that not only meets immediate needs but also sustains long-term aid efforts.
