Roads face 'significant risk' without repairs

Lincolnshire County Council has flagged ten roads within the county as being at a high risk of rapid deterioration if no immediate repairs are made. Officials cautioned that delaying maintenance could push these routes past a critical point, accelerating their decline.

The council noted that temporary fixes, such as minor patching, would ultimately be less cost-effective over time. The total repair expenses are projected to reach approximately 12 million, with the highways committee scheduled to review potential funding from the 2026/27 budget next week.

The affected roads include the A15 at Folkingham, A17 Wigtoft Bypass, and the A153 at Anwick. According to the report, these areas are at a stage where damage typically intensifies, leading to higher costs, increased disruption, and greater safety risks if left unaddressed.

The recommended repairs will differ depending on the location but are intended to ensure the roads remain serviceable for the next 20 years.

Other roads highlighted for attention include Lincoln's University Roundabout, Ropewalk, Yarborough Road, and various routes around Grantham, Colsterworth, Uffington, Sleaford, Anwick, and Stamford. Should costs rise, some projects may be postponed to the following year, where they would receive top priority.

The report clarified that major government-backed projects, such as the North Hykeham Relief Road scheduled to begin early next year, are not included in this list.
