Rockefeller Christmas Tree illuminated, marking beginning of 2025 holiday season

On Wednesday evening, New York City's legendary Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree was illuminated, officially signaling the beginning of the 2025 holiday season in the city. Crowds filled Rockefeller Plaza to witness the moment when 50,000 LED lights wrapped around the 75-foot Norway spruce flickered on just before 10 p.m. EST, celebrating the 93rd annual lighting ceremony.

The 11-ton tree, originating from East Greenbush, New York, was generously donated by the Russ family, whose property nurtured the spruce for over 60 of its 75 years. Atop the tree, a dazzling Swarovski star with 70 spikes shines with 3 million crystals, weighing approximately 900 pounds. The LED lights, if strung together, would stretch an impressive five miles.

The evening featured performances from renowned artists including Kristin Chenoweth, Halle Bailey, Marc Anthony, Michael Bubl, Reba McEntire, and the Radio City Rockettes, bringing festive cheer to the assembled audience.

The Norway spruce was transported to Rockefeller Plaza on November 8 and patiently awaited its grand debut for nearly a month. This annual tree lighting continues a cherished Manhattan tradition that dates back to the early 1930s.

The tree will remain illuminated through early January, with exact dates for its display to be announced at a later time.
