A beloved holiday tradition that began in 1931 is returning to New York City on Wednesday, Dec. 3: the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. This years Norway Spruce stands 75 feet tall and is estimated to be 75 years old, coming from a location near Albany, New York. The massive tree weighs 11 tons and spans 45 feet in diameter. It is adorned with 50,000 colorful lights and topped with a 900-pound Swarovski star.

Broadcast Details for the Tree Lighting

The ceremony will be televised live on NBC and Peacock from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET. The event will be hosted by singer and actress Reba McEntire, who will also perform during the special. NBC highlighted her participation on social media, noting she will light up your holiday season. McEntire is known for her role in the network sitcom "Happy's Place" and as a coach on the 28th season of "The Voice."

Additionally, anchors from the "TODAY" show, including Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Savannah Guthrie, are expected to attend the event in person.

Live Performances

The special will feature various musicians and dancers performing throughout the broadcast, adding to the festive atmosphere of the iconic holiday celebration at Rockefeller Center.
