Siblings perished in tragic Thanksgiving house fire while attempting to rescue their father: Reports

Tragedy struck on Thanksgiving in Orange, New Jersey, as two sisters, Frantzia Fleury and Pojanee Fleury, lost their lives while trying to help their father, who has a disability, escape a house fire, authorities reported.

The fire erupted around 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, at a residence on Mosswood Avenue. Frantzia, 49, and Pojanee, 42, rushed to assist their father but were unable to survive the blaze. Their deaths were confirmed shortly after, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Their father and six other residents escaped unharmed. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Pojanee Fleury was the founder of Brown Eyez Magazine, established in 2007 to highlight positive artistry and holistic health within the African-American community. Frantzia Fleury worked as a radiologic technologist at Clara Maass Medical Center, as noted on her professional profile.

A neighbor who witnessed the fire described the scene as heartbreaking, particularly on a holiday, saying, "I just came here to look, and then I see the whole fire. Thats heartbreaking, and on Thanksgiving, thats hard."

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Essex County Prosecutors Office at 1-877-TIPS-4EC (1-877-847-7432).

Tragic Loss on Thanksgiving: A Devastating Reminder of the Dangers of House Fires

The heartbreaking events that unfolded in Orange, New Jersey, on Thanksgiving serve as a sobering reminder of the risks associated with home fires. Frantzia Fleury and Pojanee Fleury, two sisters who lost their lives while trying to save their disabled father from a fire, are remembered not only for their selfless actions but also for their contributions to their community. Their tragic deaths have left an indelible mark on their family, friends, and neighbors.

As authorities continue to investigate the cause of the blaze, the loss of the two women is a stark reminder of how quickly a fire can escalate and the devastating consequences it can have on families. Fortunately, their father and six others in the household managed to escape the flames. However, this tragic incident has raised awareness about fire safety, especially during the holiday season when families gather together.

The impact of this tragedy is felt deeply by the local community. Pojanee Fleury, who founded Brown Eyez Magazine in 2007 to promote positive African-American artistry and holistic health, and Frantzia Fleury, who worked as a radiologic technologist at Clara Maass Medical Center, were both dedicated individuals who made lasting contributions to their respective fields. Their untimely deaths are a tremendous loss, not just to their family but to the broader community they were so actively involved in.

In light of this devastating loss, it is critical that fire safety measures be reviewed and improved, particularly for households with vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly or those with disabilities. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, this tragedy emphasizes the importance of having working smoke detectors, clear escape routes, and ensuring that all family members are familiar with fire emergency procedures.

The loss of Frantzia and Pojanee Fleury is felt by many, and their courage in attempting to save their father will not be forgotten. The community and authorities continue to extend their deepest condolences to the grieving family. For anyone with information regarding the incident, authorities have urged them to come forward.
